What's in your saddlebag?
I ride a bike that is pretty bare bones for a good reason. I like it that way. I do not have a windshield, tourpak, radio because it's my bike. I do have saddlebags to store only the essentials. I am not saying a windshield, tourpak or a radio are bad for your ride, just want mine my way.
So here is what I store in my toolkit onboard. A roll of duct tape, half roll of electrical tape(good stuff Scotch 33+) two small hose clamps, foot& half of fuel line tubing, small patch of emery cloth, spare starter relay, leatherman multi tool, 2 feet of tiewire, half dozen electrical connectors, allen wrenchs & a mirrored pickup tool.
This assortment has kept me on the road when I felt like I was riding on the surface of the moon. Most of the interuptions I have encountered on the road have been electrical problems. So on a long haul I add a electrical multimeter & a battery tender in the saddlebags. Of course raingear is a given unless your riding in the Sahara. Keeping a quart of oil could also help keep you on the road but you knew that.
All this stuff was chosen from miles of riding. I have been pretty lucky only rode over one muffler on the interstate when I was riding too late one night. I learned real fast to trust my gas gauge & reserve is only for fumes. Bikes are meant to be ridden. Pushing a bike should be against the law. What I keep in my saddlebag should keep me on the road a little longer.
