Time to Give Back

I have been riding since 1981 . In my first year of riding I layed down the bike twice. Luckily with only roadrash I knew it can only get better. Last night while attending motorcycle instructor training I learned something new. All accidents are preventable on the road. Seeing the newbies ride like idiots last year made me think of my early days of riding. This year instead of bitchin I decided to do something about it. When my son & I attended the IMS show in Chicago the question was asked for the last time.

We have a diverse group of instructor wannabes in our class along with a proven group of instructors who want to only get better. All different motorcycle companies are represented in our parking lot. We do share the passion to ride that is what brought us to the classroom on a Thursday night in March. We all have 2 missions in this MRF based class. I can see from the first night our instructors are ready along with the students.As for me I'll ride at the drop of a hat. I am sure I have some habits that need adjusting from my 20+ years of riding. Getting the chance to now get paid to ride is definetly a plus. If I can teach one rider the skills & thought process neccesary in the early stage will be my reward. Wether the rider puts it to use is always their choice just like a helmet in my opinion.

In our diverse group we have a carpenter,cement truck driver,plumber,ex-road racer,older lady on a HD trike,fireman,cop,young lady new to the riding experience,Shriner who does the parade circuit & these are only the ones I meet in the first night of classroom. This weekend starts are riding on the range.The range is where no matter how long we have been riding we all start on the same page. After a long ass winter it is a place I look forward to. Now more than ever I have two reasons to be riding on Sat.& Sunday.It has been a long time since I feel like a newbie but that is what I am sporting my HDBF on my helmet. Enjoy the ride.
